Self-defense: When can I use force to protect myself?

In Indiana, you can use reasonable force to protect yourself, or someone else, if you reasonably believe that someone is going to imminently use force against you or some other person. You can use deadly force if you reasonably believe that the force was necessary to prevent serious bodily injury to yourself or someone else.

If you have been charged with a crime of violence, but you were acting to defend yourself or a friend, you may have a valid legal defense. You should never give a statement regarding the incident, or speak to anyone about the alleged crime, without your attorney present.
